ESPN is reporting that Redskin DB Shawn Springs is coming in for a visit with the Eagles tonight and could be signed soon…
You normally don’t issue a press release when you’re not planning to sign a player. Springs is a physical cornerback who could also help out at safety now that Brian Dawkins has left the building.
I wasn’t aware Springs had experience at safety, but either way if he were to start at cornerback it could free up Sheldon Brown to move to safety as well. Certainly seems like the Eagles are setting themselves up to have several options at free safety if Quintin Demps isn’t ready for the job.
Of course it’s also worth discussing how much gas the 33-year old Springs has left in the tank. The 12-year vet had 36 tackles and a pick for the Skins last season.
LJ Still Looking for a Home…
Former Eagles TE LJ Smith (pretty safe to assume he won’t be back at this point) is visiting the Lions tomorrow, and supposedly the Falcons and Browns have an interest in him as well (per Adam Schefter).
Schefter says LJ could be “an ideal fit” in Detroit, primarily I assume because LJ is absolute garabge just like a majority of that team.
