John Mayberry, Jr, acquired in a trade for Greg Golson over the winter, has been making a strong push to make the roster so far this spring. USA Today has a story about the youngster

He’s played in the most games and racked up the most at-bats of any player this spring, so he’s getitng ample opportunities to show what he’s got.
He’s probably still going to end up at Triple-A to start the season, but he’s putting himself in a position to be called up if the team needs him.
Charlie Manuel:
“He’s got a lot of potential and a real good chance to be a really good player,” Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said of Mayberry. “I think sometimes it takes you a while to get it, it takes you a while to get used to pro ball… he’s right at the (age) where it’s a good time for him to take off as far as higher baseball. With the talent he’s got, there’s no reason he can’t play in the big leagues.”
The change of scenery is a welcome thing to Mayberry, but sometimes it’s used as an excuse when someone isn’t performing. If the player has talent, he should be able to show it no matter where he’s playing. Hopefully, Mayberry can turn his potential into something special here in Philly.
