Park wins the Race for 5th, Sheffield contacted

B5385CB5-5F17-4E96-95CC-B9A036C6A2E3.jpgZolecki is reporting that Chan Ho Park has won the Race for 5th over J.A. Happ.

Not that surprising, but I would have liked to have seen Happ get the spot and put Park in the bullpen.

The other interesting news is that GM Ruben Amaro has confirmed that the team has been in touch with the agent for Gary Sheffield. ESPN has also been running the story that confirms the Phillies are interested in the slugger. It would be a sight to see Sheffield get his 500th HR in a Phillies uniform.

I don’t know if Shef would be a good addition, but the Phillies are obviously looking into it.

I wouldn’t worry about Park staying in the rotation. You will probably get a chance to see Happ in the rotation around June, we have such bad luck keeping our arms healthy.

As I’ve said in several posts, I think the playoff chances for the Phillies hinge on how healthy the rotation stays.

They got remarkably lucky last season and look what happened.

I just don’t see that happening this season.

Happ and Kendrick will both be up at some point this season.
