Yeah, not really.

But, that doesn’t mean that the league cant start All-Star game voting already.

All Star voting is already open here

There is a huge opportunity here for Chase Utley to make history. He has the chance to start four straight ASGs. He would be the first Phillie since Michael Jack Schmidt to do that. Here’s the info from Phillies.com

Utley and Brad Lidge were the only two Phillies to make the team last year. Ryan Howard was the first person to be leading the league in HR and not make the team.

Just a little rant: This ASG stuff is getting ridiculous. There is no reason in hell that the voting should be taking place already. The rosters are basically just popularity contests for the game. There are always players out there having great seasons but aren’t popular enough to be named to the team. The event is just a huge marketing scam for MLB, as are all the other all star games. Don’t even get me started on the whole home field advantage in the World Series being decided by the ASG winner. That’s just crazy. No reason for that. Alternate the home field between the leagues so that the AL gets to use the DH every other year. Rant over.

Back on topic, get out there and vote. Raul Ibanez is being a beast through the first two weeks, as is Jayson Werth. Obviously, none of the Phillies pitchers are doing well, but it’s still early.

The All Star Game is taking place July 14th at Busch Stadium in St. Louis this season. Plenty of time for players to get their stats up and get themselves in the game.
