A Werth-While Investment

Posted by David Foley On May - 13 - 2009

A couple former Dodgers came back to haunt their old team last night, as Chan Ho’rrible recovered from a rough start to pitch six strong innings and Jayson Werth tied a team record with four steals in a 5-3 Phillies win.

Three of Werth’s steals came in one inning, as he managed to steal second, third, and home (!!!) in the bottom of the 7th. If you told me a Phillie stole home I’d bet almost anything it would be J-Roll or Shane, but Jayson Werth?!? Give him a lot of credit for an alert bit of baserunning and for having the balls to actually go for it.

Here’s what it looked like on ESPN’s Gametracker:

werthNot bad for a guy the Dodgers all but gave up on prior to his revival in Philly.

It caught me completely off guard when Werth stole home. It was great though. Definitely nice to see him take advantage of Russell Martin being lazy.

One thing though, it’s Jayson, not Jason.
