Not the Right Man for This Job
Sixer GM Ed Stefanski announced he is scheduled to interview former Wizards Head Coach Eddie Jordan Friday. That is, unless Jordan is hired by the Sacramento Kings first.
Various NBA sources are saying that the Kings are aggressively targeting Jordan for their own vacant Head Coaching position.
Oddly enough, Jordan previously served as an assist in Sacramento for five seasons before being promoted to Head Coach at the end of 1997 season.
Jordan’s coaching career started at Old Dominion as an assistant under former Sixers Head Coach Jim O’Brien.
And just when you thought the connections ended there.
Sixers GM Ed Stefanski served as GM of the Nets during the 2002 and 2003 seasons, while Jordan served as assistant coach. Jordan also once played for the Nets.
Whew, Ok. Everybody got that?
Now that we have that out of the way, should the Sixers hire him?
No.
Is Eddie Jordan really going to inspire this team? Or put them over the edge?
Bottom line what Eddie Jordan brings to the table just won’t be good enough. The Sixers need a motivator with big game experience as a player and a coach.
Hey Ed, Eddie ain’t the answer. And I hope you know that, considering he’s your first interview I have a feeling you do.
I already gave you my pick, Doug Collins. A lot of pundits have said they think Collins has been away too long. I counter that by saying it could be a good thing. A fresh coaching perspective from a guy whose forgotten more Basketball then most know.
I’ve been a little harsh on Avery Johnson , though I’ve had a few days to think about it and I believe he’d also be a good choice.
However, the same rules apply for Avery. If Collins has been gone from the game too long, then Johnson hasn’t coached long enough.
Double Whammy.
In the end it’s clear, the Sixers do NOT need another Jim O’Brien. Hence the Sixers do NOT need Eddie Jordan.
