Asante Samuel: Pro Bowl DB, Twitterer. (PhiladelphiaEagles.com)
Asante Samuel has joined the legions on Twitter, and wasted no time making a J-Roll-esq prediction for the Eagles upcoming season…
“this is about to be a superbowl winning season fareal.”
Aside from learning that “fareal” is an actual word I like to see confidence like this from my team’s star players. Obviously the Championship predictions are getting a bit stale by now but every team needs a guy who is willing to put his neck on the line by saying something like that and this could be a sign that Asante is ready to step up in more of a leadership role now that B-Dawk is gone.
At the same time, If the Eagles are going to win it all they’ll probably need Asante to stay healthy for a whole season, something he hasn’t been able to do 4 out of his last 5 seasons in Philly and New England.
**Quick Digression**
Urban Dictionary word of the day: “waffle crapper.”
**Back to our regularly scheduled program**
Trent Cole is also on Twitter now, so make sure to add these two because I’m sure they’ll have some interesting things to say as the season approaches.
Lito Runs his Mouth, Pulls Hamstring
In an interview with Bob Glauber (Bob Globber? Maybe related to Bob Loblaw?) of Newsday Lito Sheppard ripped into his former team…
“After my second Pro Bowl season [in 2006], it started going downhill when I addressed the fact that I felt like I wanted a new deal,
I truly believe that if they paid me and they paid Asante at the same time, and if I had a pretty good year, then people would have asked, ‘Then why would you bring in Asante?’ They had to keep me at a minimum in terms of play time.”
Obviously Lito is just bitter and entirely full of crap. The chump would have gotten more playing time if he didn’t mail it in everytime he was on the field (see the long TD he gave up to T.O. in the Birds’ week 2 loss to Dallas.) I mean, he was so bad last season he legitimately got beat out for a starting job by JOSELIO HANSEN!! Shipping him to New York was a great move by the Eagles, and I give Lito 3-4 weeks until he starts missing games with nagging injuries. Bank on it.
