With his offensive production today against the Reds, 3 RBIs and a HR, Raul Ibanez has risen straight to the top of the Triple Crown categories.
Ribbie is leading the Senior Circuit in HRs with 15 and is also leading the league in RBIs, with 40. His .349 batting average currently puts him at 6th in the league.
Now, I know it’s early as all hell to start forecasting things like this, but if Ibanez can keep this up, he’ll definitely have a shot. He has been nothing short of incredible during the first part of the season for the Fightins’. He was definitely the steal of the free agent crop this past offseason and Ruben Amaro deserves a lot of credit bringing him on board. The three years may end up being a bit much, but for the first year, he’s been well worth the price.
If Rauuuuul can manage to keep himself in the top 10 of all three triple crown categories through the All-Star break, I think he’s got a legitimate shot at winning all three batting categories. As long as nothing arises on the injury front, which is always a concern when talking about a player who is 36 years old, Ibanez looks to be the biggest threat on this Phillies offense this season.
