Outman's seven starts this season are not a large enough sample size to make that conclusion. And Cardenas' success at Double-A isn't a good indicator of his true talent. Considering the depth in the Phils' farm system, they didn't give up much at all to get Joe. Cardenas was never going to see time with the Phillies, so his loss is negligible.

If the Phillies have a chance to get Peavy, they have to pull the trigger on that. He is an established ace, Petco Park or otherwise. Not to mention, the Phils have him for the next few seasons, so trading some prospects won't have as great an impact on the organization as it did the Brewers in 2008 when they gave up a ton to get CC.

If you look at the state of the rotation, the Phillies just lost their only other consistent starter besides Hamels. It's too early to tell about Happ, and Blanton needs to repeat this last start again and again before he can be counted on, and then there's Moyer. There is always Kendrick, Carrasco, Bastardo, and others, but they are a bigger risk than putting Chan Ho Park back into the rotation.

But the point is still valid…don't sell what little talent we have in the farm system for someone who is ont he decline. The only way I make a trade is if it really is a can't miss deal.

I agree with you though. The Phillies don't need to trade for anyone right now. They just don't have any leverage and can't afford to part with any of their young talent.

Let's just hold down the fort until it becomes clearer on who is going to be available.
