It seems like the Flyers have a serious interest in KHL netminding, cause you’ll never guess who they might be bringing back to the City of Brotherly Love…
“Another bizarre twist in goaltending may soon unfold in Philadelphia.
Sources tell TSN former Flyers goaltender Robert Esche is on Philadelphia’s radar and may be lured back from the Kontinental Hockey League where he was playing with SKA St.Petersburg.”
I honestly never in a million years could have seen this coming. I always liked Esche during his days with the Flyers and you have to think he’d be a more than suitable (and likely cheap) backup to Ray Emery.
Ironically enough Emery and Esche’s KHL stats were surprisingly similar last season. Esche was 21-14, with a 1.87 GAA and a .912 S% while Emery went 22-8, with a 1.86 GAA and a .926 S%.
I wonder if Paul Holmgren will be picking Robert up from the airport like he did for Ray, or if he’ll just make him pay for a cab to save a few more bucks for the organization.
Another plus to this potential move after the jump…
Bringing Esche back would pay off in another area: it would give the Flyers two goalies who can throw down if need be.
Of course sometimes Ray just can’t help who he ends up fighting with. I still can’t believe this guy is our new #1…
