With the latest round of All Star Game voting results released this week, Chase Utley and Raul Ibanez still lead in their respective positions.
Utley, however, lost the overall vote lead to St. Louis’ Albert Pujols. Can’t really argue with that. Pujols is having a monster season yet again, and Utley is leading the voting for 2nd base by around a million votes over the Dodgers’ Orlando Hudson. I’d say he’s got the spot.
Rauuuuuuulllll is still leading all outfielders after a strong push by Phillies fans after that first round of voting showed he wouldn’t make it. Ribbie has been the catalyst for the Phillies’ offense this season, and as recent gams have shown, he is sorely missed.
In what I think is good news, Jimmy Rollins has dropped out of the top spot at shortstop. Florida’s Hanely Ramirez has overtaken Rollins for the lead. I say this is a good thing because Rollins just doesn’t deserve the spot this year. If he would have won, I think he would have had a tough time accepting it. It would have been wrong for him to accept the position knowing the type of season he’s had so far. By him dropping out of the top spot, it removes the awkward position of him having to decline. Good job voters.
If you haven’t voted yet, there is still time. You can vote up to 25 times here.
I’m all for stuffing the ballot box, but make sure the people you vote for actually deserve to be there.
