There’s a serious issue with the Phillies right now.
It seems as this team just forgot how to play winning baseball. All of the usual suspects just aren’t coming throw.
Jimmy Rollins is riding an 0-27 streak at the plate and his average is dipping very close to the Mendoza line. He’s terrible right now.
Cole Hamels has not been the ace that this team needs. He has gotten roughed up in his past few starts. The Phillies need effective pitching to win, and that’s not happening. There is an issue with the pitching staff when you are calling up Rodrigo Lopez to pitch a game. He should have been done after his 2007 season with Colorado.
In the midst of all of this doom and gloom, which I’ll admit I’ve been pushing as well, let’s go back to something better. Something that reminds us of the good times that this team is capable of delivering.
In what is one of the stupidest rules in sports, local announcers of baseball teams can’t call the games on television when their team makes the World Series. This caused such an uproar in 1980, when the Fightins’ won their first WS, that the rule was changed so that local announcers could call the game on the radio.
I’m sure, by now, most Phillies’ fans have heard Harry Kalas’ call of the last out of the 2008 Fall Classic, but have you heard the whole 9th inning? I bought the collector’s DVD set, so I watched the whole final game with Harry calling it, but I think many people out there haven’t heard it.
Thanks for this go out to On The DL podcast and DMonie on Twitter.
Here’s the link to the full ninth inning call of the 2008 World Series by Harry Kalas.
Just remember Phils fans, it can only get better from here……I hope.
