Holy shit, is this the team we’ve been expecting to see all season?
I know the Mets have been playing terrible as of late, but the Phillies really seemed to play a hell of a lot better than they have been.
Jimmy Rollins finally decided to start playing like the former NL MVP that he his. After his 0-for the summer streak he was on, he’s finally gotten around to getting on base and the results have shown. Maybe since he wasn’t named to the All Star Game, and deservedly so, the stress has lifted and he can just play baseball.
The big story of this Mets series has to be the pitching. Rodrigo Lopez, Jamie Moyer, and Joe Blanton all lasted into at least the 7th inning. The Phillies really need their pitching to step up in order to stay competitive. I must say, Lopez surprised me. I wasn’t expecting much, but he pitched really well in his return to the majors. With all of the injuries that have been mounting for the Phillies, players like Lopez need to step it up.
Reinforcements are also on the way for the struggling offense. Raul Ibanez will finally start his rehab tomorrow night in AA Reading. He has been pushed back a few times, but he is sure he’ll start Monday night in Reading. Hopefully he comes back soon, because the Phillies need him for the 2nd half of the season.
Scott Eyre was also activated from the DL today with Sergio Escalona being sent back down. Eyre has been pitching pretty well this season, so he’ll be welcomed back to the ‘pen.
The Phillies start a series with the Cincinnati Reds tomorrow, so hopefully they’ll keep this nice little streak going.
