“Coste has been designated for assignment to clear a roster spot for the return of Raul Ibanez, and the Astros have claimed the catcher. Oh sweet, more Paul Bako! /eye roll”
What are we going to do without everyone’s favorite mediocre backup catcher?!? All due respect to Chris; I read his book and appreciate what he went through to make it to the bigs. At the same time he clearly wasn’t getting the job done and losing him off the roster is not going to hurt this team in the slightest. Maybe it will lead to us trading for a REAL righty off the bench.
My concern though is this means the infinitely-shitty Paul Bako will get more playing time. First of all, wouldn’t we better served to give Marson his starts to showcase him prior to a major trade? Or at least bringing someone in who isn’t ENTIRELY past their prime? I die a little on the inside everytime Bako steps to the plate…it’s getting that bad.
The real question is how much is Ruben kicking himself for trading Ronny Paulino for Jack Trashner? Paulino would be a perfect backup to go with Ruiz, but instead we are stuck with PAUL BAKO! If the Phils don’t make a significant move for a starter before the deadline I will have a “FIRE RUBEN AMARO” post up the next day. He lucked out on Ibanez, and every other move he has made has been a epic failure. I’m watching, Ruben, and I am not amused.
