Pedro Martinez is in Philly, and ESPN just ran across their ticker that the Phillies are set to sign him if he passes a physical.
The Phils needed pitching help, and while Pedro isn’t going to solve all their problems it’s still a worthwhile risk. If his velocity really is up in the low 90′s as previously reported you’ll have a capable fourth or fifth starter looking to prove he can still make it in the Majors. If it doesn’t work out, cut bait and at least you gave it a try.
Still, envisioning Pedro in a Phils uniform is about as appealing to me as taking a jackhammer to my right foot till there’s nothing left but a stump. He is a prick, plain and simple. However if that prick can still pitch well and help us repeat, I think I’ll be willing to lay off the Pedro hatred for the time being.
