Start of Flyers Fan Favorite: 2009

Posted by Chris Shafer On July - 27 - 2009

hextallWelcome to the start of the 2009 offseason selection of the fan favorite for the Philadelphia Flyers. This series is about who you are most excited to see this season. It doesn’t have to be a new acquisition or the popular player on the team but instead who gets you the most excited for the opening faceoff on Friday, October 2nd against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Camp opens on Saturday, September 12th this year in Voorhees so by then we will have our fan favorite.

The way we will do this is, we will start with 16 players and every couple of days there will be a head to head match up like a playoff. Winner of course moves on and loser gets dropped from the competition. Just like in the Stanley Cup playoffs there will be favorites to win who will go up against long shot players ranked lower and so on until we have a winner.

The bracket (excuse the use of MS Paint since my Photoshop is currently on the fritz):

fanfavorite2009Basically, in order to get off to a quick start we will do two at a time in the first round and then go one at a time after that. The second round will also be reshuffled so that the top ranked players moving on square off against the lowest ranked. So if Mike Richards, Chris Pronger, Claude Giroux, and Kimmo Timonen all move on then it will be Richards vs. Timonen and Pronger vs. Giroux in the 2nd round on the left half of the bracket.

For the opening post in this segment it will be the two 1 seeds vs. the two 8 seeds. Both of which I expect to be blowouts, but that’s just how it goes. You can cast your vote by replying on facebook or commenting on this post. When the voting period ends, and I feel everyone who wants to participate has had their say I will move on to the 2 vs. 7 matchups.

MIKE RICHARDS VS. DAN CARCILLO

and

JEFF CARTER VS. AARON ASHAM

who do you pick?

    Richards and Asham.

I can't vote for a guy who not only shy's away from getting hit, but is afraid to even give a hit. Carter has no heart — trade him while his stock is monstrously high. (i do appreciate his pts production though!)
