With just four days left in camp the Eagles have now had three injuries to key players, although one is less serious than the other two.
Earlier this week the Birds suffered a big blow, losing linebacker Stewart Bradley for the season. Today rookie tight end Cornelius Ingram suffered a serious setback re-tearing his left ACL; the same one he hurt at Florida. Desean Jackson also hyper-extended his right knee in the morning practice, but that injury is being written off as nothing serious by the Eagles.
Had Jackson’s injury been more serious this day could have been a lot worse, so let’s all take a minute to just breathe a sigh of relief. At the same time, the Bradley and Ingram injuries are tough blows to two positions where the Eagles don’t necessarily have the most depth. Both of those guys were also considered to be young players with a lot of potential, and Ingram had looked excellent in camp up till today.
If there was ever a fortunate thing about the timing of these injuries it’s that they both occured early enough where the Eagles still have time to find suitable replacements. They already signed Matt Wilhelm and Justin Babin for some LB depth, and I’m sure a decent depth TE will be cut by another team as the rosters thart to shrink in case the Eagles aren’t comfortable with Eugene Bright as the #3 guy. (It’s actually already been reported that the Eagles worked out three TEs this morning and will probably sign one.) Had Bradley and Ingram been injured during the preseason it would have put the Eagles in a much tougher situation than the one they are in right now.
