Numbers of the Night

Posted by David Foley On September - 11 - 2009

.243 – The Phillies team batting average with noone on base, good enough for dead last in the Majors.

59 – The number of home runs the Phils have hit with the bases empty, ranking 3rd in the MLB.

.251 – The Phillies batting average with runners in scoring position (RISP), ranking 24th in the MLB.

.213 –  Phils batting average with RISP and two outs, second to last in the MLB.

48 – Number of Phillies home runs with RISP, best in the Majors.

What do these numbers tell you? The Phillies may have one of the most hit or miss offenses (pun intended) in recent memory. They may not get the clutch hits too often, but when they do they make them count.

Perfect example? When the Phils have the bases loaded their .232 BA is among the worst in the Majors, but their 9 grand slams lead both leagues.
