As Marty from Delaware famously stated last year, why can’t us? Why can’t the Phillies repeat as WFC?
For the second time in franchise history, the Philadelphia Phillies have won three straight National League East championships.
The magic number was one heading into the game, so all the Phils needed was a win against the Astros or a Braves loss. Turns out, they got both, as Atlanta lost minutes before Brad Lidge got the final out in a 10-3 Phillies in.
Charlie Manuel made a very classy move in bringing in Lidge for the final out. Kind of rude to Scott Eyre, who got the first two outs, but Lidge needed to end a game like this. Nailing down a game like this, even with a 7 run lead, will surely help his confidence heading towards the final 5 games and playoffs.
In another classy move by the players, they honored Harry Kalas in a very moving way. The players came back out to left-center and doused the “HK” sign with champagne and beer. Beer has been a staple of these celebrations the past three years, which seems to fit the makeup of these players more than champagne. Here’s a picture, courtesy of The Fightins:

I really can’t even begin to describe how much I love this team. Everything about it. They’re awesome
