For the first time in their history, the Philadelphia Phillies are heading to the World Series for the 2nd consecutive time. The Phillies have usually gone a few years between World Series appearances over the previous 126 seasons.
This will be the Phillies seventh trip to the World Series .
Simply put, the Phillies absolutely dominated the Dodgers in this series. A look at the box scores may not confirm that, but think about it, and I hate to bring this up, but the Phillies were 1 little throw to second base from sweeping this series.
Now, with wins of 11-0 and 10-4, those games were absolute beatdowns by the Fightins. The Phillies got to the Dodgers’ vaunted bullpen the entire series, but especially in those two games.
For the longest time, the Phillies were looked at as the losers in this town. Even the Sixers had a nice little run way back in the early `00s. The Phillies went from losing badly to coming up just short. 2007 finally got them over the hump, and 2008, well we all know how that turned out.
With a return to the World Series, the Phillies have taken a huge step toward establishing themselves as a top franchise in Major League Baseball. A win in the 2009 World Series would bring this team towards, dare I say it, dynasty status.
Can you imagine? The Phillies being a dynasty?
With the way this postseason has gone, they’re well on their way.
