Flyers get their first win in two weeks or so. Thank the NHL’s terrible scheduling for that.
It’s a big win though, and Giroux was the difference. His dangles are incredible.
When the last time the Flyers had someone who could make people look absolutely foolish?
Briere? Maybe, but he’s more crafty around the net then spectacular.
Forsberg? Possible too, but he’d run people over instead. By the time he got here he was injured far too often anyway.
The Flyers have a legit dangler. Anyone else excited by this? I can’t remember the last time I was in awe of a way a Philadelphia Flyer moved the puck.
Well here’s to a big win. Hopefully more to come with back-to-back home games this weekend.
- Matt Carle has another point on Pronger’s goal putting him at 9 points in 7 games. He leads the Flyers and is tied for the league lead in points by a defenseman.
- Emery stops all three Bruin shootout attempts; Giroux with a beauty wins the game for the Flyers.
- Darroll Powe and Arron Asham remain hot.
- Gagne is on the verge of putting in his first goal of the year. It has to come eventually.
- JVR gets yet another point.
- Darroll Powe gets mentioned twice because, as a friend of mine basically said, if every player on the Flyers played with as much heart as this guy we’d win all 82 games. Not an exact quote, but you get the idea.
For the most part the team played very well. The “relentless” tag-line for the 2009-10 orange and black quest for the Stanley Cup fits this team’s offense. There were times in the game where Boston just could not compete for the puck. This has been something the Flyers have been good at all season.
Bad bounces and spectacular goaltending usually keep the team from running up the score. The biggest issue though is the costly turnovers, most of which are due to the team playing an east-west game in their own end as opposed to a north-south game.
While John Stevens has made it a point of emphasis to correct these problems, they are still costing the Flyers way too many goals and way too many leads. There is progress, but at this point it is more like pulling teeth.
At least the face-offs were far better.
