5 ways to make Madden 2011 more realistic

Posted by David Foley On November - 13 - 2009

Madden NFL 2010 is being lauded as the best game in the series’ history, but there is still a lot of work for EA to do if they truly want to make this the most realistic football game ever. That, ladies and gentlemen, is where I come in. Here are five additions that could push Madden 2011 over the top, in no particular order…you can thank me later EA.

Manning Face!1.) The “Manning Face.”

No Giants loss is complete without the amazingly sulky, befuddled awesomeness that is the “Manning Face.” It even has it’s own website for crying out loud! Any time Eli (or to a lesser extent Peyton) throws three or more INTs in a Madden game we should be treated to several sideline shots of the Manning Face in all it’s glory. Between play shots of Archie watching disappointedly in the crowd would be an optional, but fitting addition as well.

2.) Appropriate “Brett Favre Lingo”

Let’s face it, if EA really wants Madden to be true to real life they’ll need to record some special commentary for any game Brett Favre plays in. Suggested phrases should include but not be limited to: “He’s just having fun out there!” “What a throw by the old gunslinger!” “That’s a vintage Brett Favre moment right there!” and of course after every Favre INT, “That was clearly the receiver’s fault!” The game should also be programmed so that any time a team with Favre as the starter makes it to a Conference Championship game he self-destructs, throws five INTs, and single-handedly loses the game.

3.) More realistic injuries and suspensions

Injuries play such a huge role in the modern day NFL, and they really aren’t done justice in Madden 2010. Particularly injury-prone players should get hurt more often, and the appropriate “probable, questionable, doubtful, etc.” terms should be introduced for the injury report. That way Brian Westbrook can be listed as “questionable” every week just like real life!

A “discipline” rating should also be added for each player and fines/suspensions should be randomly doled out for bad behavior/positive drug tests/crapping in sleeping women’s closets.

Every Cowboys fan that sees this will want to hang themselves.4.) Long snapper and holder minigame

Extra points and field goals are an afterthought in Madden each year, but that is about to change. Now the player gets to control the long snapper by flicking the analog stick to replicate hiking the ball, and then control the holder to get the ball set for the kicker. Adding to the realism, if you decide to create a long snapper in Superstar mode you spend a vast majority of your time standing around on the sidelines, and everytime you screw up you get cut the next day.

For a funny result try getting a snap down with Tony Romo as your holder!

5.) Custom TD celebrations

The FIFA series has the right idea by letting you control a player after he scores a goal and do custom celebrations using the left and right analog sticks. This needs to be taken the the next level in Madden: I’m talking fully customized end zone celebrations. Whip out that Sharpie to autograph the ball for a lucky fan! Pull off the Lambeau leap as Chad Ochocinco! Toss the ball away before actually crossing the goalline to the utter dismay of your team’s fans and your fantasy owners!

In order for this game to be a success all nfl players should look realistic...and they should focus on the players feet when catching the ball when going out of bounds

suspensions would be a welcomed addition that hasn't been allowed in years. Not since 2004 when they used to have a microphone next to players that were loud mouths and malcontents. that would have teams cut players because they were a cancer in the locker room.

    heres a few more suggestions:

    1. if a player is suspended at the start of season 2011 for four games (ben rothlisberger) then they will not be available for the first four games of the season.

    2. holdouts, what's the point of crafting contracts if theirs never going to be a breakout player who thinks he's worth more than he's getting.

    3. Draft picks if a team has traded away their first round draft pick the 2011 draft for a player then they shouldn't have that pick when the game ships. It's completely unfair the team that got the player has the player and gets to keep the pick??

    4. cut superstar mode and fix the online leagues to have the ability to import draft classes from NCAA 11. Fix online trade logic, Fix lack of salary cap in online leagues.

dude dont cut superstar mode that used to be the #1 game mode until it went to crap. they need yo fix it

    1. The game should follow all rules of the NFL, like for instance when the Wide receivers or anybody for that fact step out of bounce, they are not suppose to be the first one to touch the ball.

    2. Need to stop making the backups look like an allstar, a quarterback whose overall rating 67 playing like he a rating of 99, they are call a backup for a reason

    3. if you create a player from say for instance for madden 10 and instead of creating all your players again it should be able to carry over to the madden game it is too much time consuming

    4. call penalties equally throughout the game

    5. Change how the computer sacks the player quarterback a lot quicker than how the player sacks the computer quarterback

I think u guys should make custom running style to the running backs so they can run the same way in madden like in real life.........or at least make everyone in madden 11 run realistic cuz the way they run in madden 10 is just rediculous it dosent even look right
  • kyle
wen i was on madden 10 making a superstar i saw that the QB even if you make him taller they still stay the same size,

1-i think they should also take into consideration dat all players figures/shape of there bodys arent the same, for all players they should make the players different sizes like Joe Flaco hes 6'6 and hes slender compared to Peyton who isnt so slender and certain D line men ect
    make different body figures
2-the graphics, for the jerseys make look more realistic u kno at the bottom of the jersey wear its tucked in looks wierd so u should add tail bads for the lower back so it dont look so wierd, and the shoulder pads look just a bit wierd poky, u should add different pad sizes they ect, and the sleeves make them different lengths and also the sleeves u wear under your jersey also different lengths cuz if u look at jay cutler he wears full sleeves down to his wrist and Terrell pryor for Ohio state his sleeves are a bit shorter, and also not all players wear the socks make it like half players on the teams wear socks and other half dont, and wider variety of cleats,
3- the Running Graphics look choppy, make the ball graphics better add more rotation to the ball, make the grass look more reall, add Mascots like bucky the Bronco, or that crazy ass Viking,(4 the teams that have notable cool mascots that stand out), make the coaches more realistic, wat wood they normally wear, for instance Josh Mcdaniels and Bill Belachick(srry if i spelled wrong) they both stay wearing Hoddies with the sleeves rolled up and the sweats

4-for when you make it to the super bowl and the Pro Bowl make it more exciting, like go all out, add beyonce singing the National Anthem or Janet jacksons Titty popin out, when you lose in the superbowl(nvm this is for every game) show all the players coming in and celebrating and show a few of the losing players sulking on the field
ALSO PLEZZ TAKE OUT THE GAY STANCE WHEN THE QB TALKS 2 THE NEWS CREW

5-for superstar mode add hella alot more, add if you want to retire, or if you dont get the money u want act like Brandon Marshall and punt the ball . when you go to practice add more control 2 the QB or the middle Linebacker. (if ur gonna play as a QB or Linebacker)

BASICALLY MAKE IT MORE REALISTIC GO ABOVE AND BEYOND

You should do all that because it all sounds fun.But it sounds hard to hold the ball on the fieldgoal.
  • mohammad
i think it should be more realistic in nfl superstar mode like endorsment deals and like emails pick your own agent and get GOOD jobs and stuff

nfl actually asked ea and 2k to buy out the rights to the nfl franchise.. 2k didnt put up the money so the nfl took ea's offer.. learn what youre talkin about.

    6) make the running animation better. on 09 and 10 they look like they're jugging, shit make em look like they are putting afford in the run towards the endzone.
  • mrvizcarrondo
when QB throws a LAME DUCK you should be able to call for the ball on def "i got it guys back up"
  • david fuentes
who ever wrote this ur da freakin man lmao
  • Cody
They should have a crib that you can customize with arcade games and lights and trophy rooms and shit like that cuz that was best idea in the gaming history
