On the day one Philadelphia legend returned to the city, momentum is gathering to honor another.
When Phillies’ broadcaster Harry Kalas passed away in April, there was an outpouring of emotion like this city had never seen before. Everyone seemed to have a favorite HK moment. 99% of them revolved around his voice.
Sculptor Lawrence Nowlan noticed a petition on Facebook and started working on a model for a statue honoring Harry Kalas. There are over 21,000 “fans” of the page on Facebook, but donations are what’s going to make this happen.
Now, in all reality, I’m sure the Phillies are working on something along these lines themselves, but a little kick in the butt can’t hurt, right?
The plan is to have the statue in place before the 2011 home opener. It’s being estimated to cost approximately $80,000 in order to get this project completed. That’s nothing. There are millions of people out there that have fond memories of Harry Kalas. Contributing towards this project is a way of saying thanks.

With the 4 Phillies legends already around Citizens Bank Park, I’m sure there is more than enough room to put another one, and even if there wasn’t, we’d make room for Harry the K.
There’s probably some room around Michael Jack Schmidt…
