The Broad Street Bikers are just your typical Flyers fans...ones that bike from the Spectrum to Fenway in the middle of winter. (@/BroadStreetBikers.com)
Want to celebrate the Flyers’ appearance in the Winter Classic with something spectacular? I mean, it’s certainly not every day that the Orange and Black get to play outdoors in a historic venue with the entire continent to watch them.
Well these two fans (Patrick Montgomery and Andrew Moriarity) will be taking things one step further than anyone else will. You can try to do out do their crazy stunt, but I warn you, it doesn’t get much crazier.
These two guys are clearly insane, but they’re doing it for charity. They will be biking over five days from the Spectrum to Fenway on a tandem bike.
Their website, BroadStreetBikers.webs.com, has all of the details for their journey including their charity, their stops, their partners, and maybe most importantly, their justification.
Their goal is $5,000 for the homeless, and with the help of the Flyers organization, Flyers’ Wives, 93.3 WMMR, and the Blessed Sarnelli Community, they plan on achieving their goal by the time they pull into Boston on their tandem bike.
The trip will include five days of biking up the frigid northeast coastline. Mapquest tells me that the optimal route for traveling from the Spectrum to Fenway is 311.83 miles over 5 hours and 45 minutes. That’s clearly not the route they’re taking by bike, but it does show you what lengths they are willing to go to celebrate the Flyers appearance in the Winter Classic.

The trip ala MapQuest.
