Fri, 27 Jan 2012 17:15:00 +0000 hourly 1 http://wordpress.org/?v=3.0.4 http://www.phinallyphilly.com/2010/01/12/change-has-got-to-come-for-sixers/comment-page-1/#comment-2020 joegallagher Fri, 15 Jan 2010 09:44:30 +0000 http://www.phinallyphilly.com/?p=6052#comment-2020 i completely agree. a mark of a truly great coach is that he tailors his system to his players. good article. <br>the sixers have done some things that i thought to be immediately confusing a lot over the past couple of years. i do not mean to come off as second guessing, but i remember believing that the elton brand signing was stupid immediately. i mean they had just come off a season where they looked to be building a team that could run opponents into the ground. so they bring in a post player who doesnt run well? josh smith, a versatile big man, who by the way was paid considerably less than elton, was a restricted free agent the year the sixers signed brand. he was younger, faster, and more athletic - an athletic freak who would blend in seemlessly with the sixers. they didn't even attempt to sign him to an offer sheet. plus giving a player who only played 8 games or something the previous year almost never works out. and then last summer they sign eddie jordan a coach whose system clearly does not fit the team. another move that was made that i found a little stupid was the drafting of jrue holliday. now i'm sorry, i don't care if jrue develops into a really great player, and i really hope he does, but at the time, it was a stupid pick. they needed a point guard, so they pick a guy who left his college team after his freshmen year after averaging a whopping 8 (or so) points, and helped lead a team ranked in the top 5 in the preseason to a second round NCAA exit and 11 losses. on the board, they could have taken a proven winnning point guard in ty lawson (there's something to say about winners). now, i know pundits will say he lacks height or a three point shot. well were they watching the NCAA tournament? he shot over 50% from behind the arc. plus the dude can absolutely fly. add in his jump-shot, which i believe is underrated to the sixers and you have a perfect fit. <br>that said, i really hope jrue proves me wrong and becomes an all-star. and i do like what i've seen from him so far this year. <br>hopefully ed stefanski can figure it out and we can have the ole glory days of 2001 and even further back to the true glory days of Doctor J, Moses Malone and co., recreated. <br>go sixers i completely agree. a mark of a truly great coach is that he tailors his system to his players. good article.
