In what is one of the best uniform decisions ever, the Phillies will be pulling out the powder blue uniforms this season.
However, it will only be a one time thing and it will happen in Milwaukee. It does make some sense, as the blues were the road uniforms, but it’s still disappointing.
From Brewers’ beat writer Adam McCalvy:
1970s Retro Weekend
May 14- 16 vs. Phillies- May 14: Brewers to wear reproductions of the home 1972-77 uniforms with “BREWERS” in royal blue block letters on the front of the jerseys and the yellow “M” logo on the cap. The Phillies will be wearing light blue uniforms worn on the road throughout most of the 1970s.
While I was a bit too young to remember the Phillies wearing the maroon and powder blue, I still love them. As anyone who has been to Citizens Bank Park knows, it’s obvious that Phillies’ fans still love the maroon.
Even though this isn’t a Phillies’ initiated thing, I’m still excited to see the powder blues and that iconic “baseball in the P” logo back on the field. Maybe the Phillies can even break out the maroon pinstripes for a game or two next season. I can only hope.
