not to take too much away from the defense, i would say a great fourth line and wingers knowing their increased role in the system has more to do with leighton's numbers increasing.

leighton still gets out of postion, expecially when someone circles behind the net.

but hey, he's the starting goalie. he will be for the rest of the season. might as well support him.

The funny thing is that Leighton seems to go through a game every once in a while where his Leighton senses kick in and he wants to implode badly. That's when you start to see him letting in soft goals.

I wouldn't necessarily say he does that often. He's been pretty good positionally. Soft goals occur on saves you should be making. Usually soft goals can be avoided by positioning. He had terrible positioning when he first got here, as I mentioned in the article, but he seems to have gotten immensely better. He's gotten used to the defense and the defense has gotten used to cleaning up his rebounds.

It looks alright so far, but I'm treading cautiously.

I get the feel from watching him, and this is from someone who doesn't have an extraordinary hockey IQ, that he just gives up too many soft goals. Now, he does make some tremendous saves, but overall I feel like those soft goals will really kill us come playoff time. But, I guess you never know, and as long as he's the best we've got, let's ride him.
